Moira Farnham is a prominent figure on the UK garden design scene. Almost all of the private consultancy work she undertakes is by ‘word-of-mouth’ and she combines this with a very successful teaching career.
She studied at the famous Kew School of Garden Design, London, completing the Certificate in 1992. She then trained at the College of Garden Design, obtaining a distinction in her final assessment.
Moira has played a leading role in the design and creation of several award-winning show gardens, notably at the Hampton Court International Flower Show.
In 1996 she began lecturing at the Merrist Wood College in Surrey and played a prominent part in devising the syllabus for Britain’s first National Diploma in Garden Design and Construction. This two year full time programme - now an industry standard - required Moira to prepare and teach a wide range of subjects, from drafting, presentation and drawing to colour theory and application, planting design and project management.
In 1999 Moira joined the English Gardening School, London, as a freelance lecturer. Here she held advanced ‘Master Classes’ for practising garden designers, tackling subjects as diverse as drafting, freehand drawing, perspective and isometric/axonometric techniques. Her programmes attract students from around the world.
Moira is a Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers and, while serving as a Council Member, took special responsibility for raising the profile of the garden design profession and improving standards in education and training.
